Project Manager- Civil Engineer
Location: West Bend, WI — On-Site
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager – Civil Engineer to join our team in West Bend. This is an on-site position for a hands-on civil engineer who can manage projects from initial planning and design through permitting and completion.
The Project Manager will oversee multiple projects simultaneously, manage project budgets and schedules, maintain client relationships, and provide day-to-day direction to entry-level engineering staff.
The ideal candidate is a strong communicator and organized problem-solver who can work independently, take ownership of projects, and effectively balance technical engineering responsibilities with project management and team leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management & Leadership
- Manage multiple civil engineering projects from initial planning and design through permitting and completion.
- Direct and oversee 2–3 entry-level engineers, including daily check-ins, task delegation, prioritization, and guidance.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
- Monitor project progress and proactively address issues that may affect budget, schedule, or scope.
- Maintain regular communication with clients and build strong, long-term client relationships.
- Provide project updates to clients, project team members, municipalities, and other stakeholders.
Civil Engineering & Design
- Lead the engineering and preparation of plans for residential subdivisions, commercial developments, and other private development projects.
- Design and oversee plans involving:
- Grading
- Drainage
- Paving
- Water main
- Sanitary sewer
- Stormwater management
- Prepare and review stormwater management reports and related documentation.
- Review engineering plans, calculations, CAD files, and project documents for accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare, format, and organize project documents and CAD files.
Permitting & Agency Coordination
- Prepare and submit plans and permit packages to municipalities, state agencies, and the Wisconsin DNR as required.
- Coordinate with municipalities and reviewing agencies throughout the review and approval process.
- Respond to plan review comments and coordinate necessary revisions.
- Facilitate communication between clients, municipalities, townships, consultants, and other project stakeholders.
Change Orders & Project Documentation
- Lead the change order process, including coordinating updates with clients and guiding administrative staff on required documentation.
- Maintain organized project files, plans, correspondence, and other project documentation.
- Ensure project records and deliverables remain accurate, complete, and up to date.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- 5+ years of professional civil engineering experience.
- Experience managing both public and private engineering projects.
- Experience with site development, commercial development, and residential subdivisions.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously.
- Experience overseeing or mentoring junior engineering staff is preferred.
Certifications
- Wisconsin Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred, or ability to obtain Wisconsin PE licensure within 6 months.
Software & Technical Skills
- Proficiency with Civil 3D.
- Proficiency with HydroCAD.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Strong understanding of civil engineering design, permitting, and private development processes.
